Dod-001It is important that scientific knowledge is shared with the population at all levels, with children in schools, with the general public and with employees in companies through continued professional development.  This ensures that other people are empowered by the knowledge that scientists discover.  I am a STEM ambassador which means that I am committed to sharing scientific knowledge in engaging ways.

At the moment I am impressed by schemes run with schools by colleagues at the Young Academy of Scotland, e.g. Research the Headlines and the Lego league.

Here’s a fascinating fact I heard at the RSC’s Science and the Parliament event in November 2015.  Scotland needs 147,000 extra scientists and engineers by the year 2022!
